When using weapons during martial arts, weapons are considered as extensions of the martial artist’s body, meaning that the strikes made using a weapon are considered as hand strikes. As a student of martial arts, it is important to fully understand each technique used with your own body before using any type of weapon. In most martial arts schools, the use of weapons is incorporated later during training, usually after one has reached an intermediate level, such as a blue belt and a green belt.

As a combat-oriented sport, martial arts can be used for fun, exercise, or in competition. Martial arts are a wide entity and different countries have a different approach to it. In Japanese and Chinese type of martial arts, it can also focus on non-physical aspects of combat. In the USA, the term also refers to kung fu, taekwondo, karate, kickboxing, and others.
